Bad Experience at Werkz Photography

Posted by icyelite on March 6, 2009

I had a bad experience with Werkz Photography. Not sure whether it is the day that I had chose or there are always alot of people at Werkz. It was a rush, unprofessional experience. When I visited Werkz, its still at the old place near Sim Lim Square. Now they had shifted to near Lavender Mrt station.

The day when I went to Werkz, there are alot of people queuing to take their graduation potraits with their family too. I was given a small corner to put on my graduation gown with my family, everyone sharing a small mirror. I wanted to slowly wear my grad gown but the person was rushing me. I felt that my graduation gown was still in a mess but he says it looks ok. In actual fact, my gown seems to be slouching behind and my white top is in a mess. Its when I keep complaining to him that he approach to help me tidy up my clothes. When I’m done, the guy asked me to faster go in to take the photo shoot while he went to help the rest of my family members.

When shooting, the photographers arranged my clothes again and tell me how I should pose myself. For the first few single potraits, I was similing happily but later the photographers told me not to smile too much as its showing too much of my teeth which they felt that its not nice.

After single portrait, I’m still waiting for my brother to had his graduation found and wore properly. So the photographers asked me to take picture with my parents first, whether I will want to purchase the picture later is my choice.

Werkz promised me that there will be Wollongong’s graduation gown. When we reached there, they did not prepare it in advance. They searched for it last minute. Initially, they just gave another color graduation gown to my brother. My brother was pissed off when Werkz had promised me and they told my brother its okay to wear different color, they will do photoshop later. They had no choice, so they went to look for it again. Finally, my brother got his graduation found and wore and we are ready for family potraits. Last year, when we took our family potrait at Gloria Studio, the old couples were so friendly and they made everyone smile, alot of shots were taken. Gloria makes sure everyone is smiling by having some jokes, every single shot, they arranged our clothes too.

This time, Werkz did not put in the effort to make everyone smile happily. The result of the family portrait is just a rush and bad photo taking session with lots of photo editing done. I would say that their photo editing is superb and “superb”. They did so much editing that I felt my mum was drawn out rather than looking natural.

Commencement 2008

Posted by icyelite on July 15, 2008

Today is another big day in my life. Attending the session with my family and of cos, with Andy too. Mine is in the afternoon session, 3pm. So I reach school at 2+ because the princess at my home needs to finish her milk. Lol.

When I reached school, I arrived with surprise. Looking for andy among the crowds and I saw a guy holding a bouquet of lilies waiting for me. A smile and surprise immediately tagged on my face.  I still can remember the scenario that day. White lilies is my favorite flower, to me, it means purity, sincerity and it can make magical music in my heart that sounds like a trumpet.

Bouquet of white lilies

Following on, I put on my graduation gown in the graduate robing theatre. I thought there was someone who will be there to help me put on my graduation gown. Who knows, it is just a big room for you to wear your graduation gown with alot of mirrors around.

After putting on the graduation gown, its time for photo taking session. Taking photos with family and friends is a must. But Im unlike one of my friends who go around taking photos in her gown everywhere, everytime occupying nice scenery that others do not have much chance. Everywhere I go, I saw her taking pictures. Is she too enthusiastic or am I not enthusiastic at all? Or maybe my close friends are all graduating next year instead of this year.

Time for entrance to the theatre. I am sitting at Row S, Seat 12. Sitting inside, looking at the people sitting beside me, they are people I knew during my school days. More of a hi-bye friend but that day it just seems like my conversation with them is longer as compared to the total length of time I talked to them in school. I am glad I attained a merit for my bachelor. This is one of my greatest achievement in school. Starting from a CAP 2 until a merit for my bachelor. *A pat on the shoulder for myself*

The ceremony started without an opening speech from the Dean or special guests. The moment the board of directors are seated, they started calling names on the stage. I waited for about 40 minutes before it is my turn to get prepared to stand on the stage. The footsteps to the stage is quite heavy, as my heart starts to beat faster. I keep telling myself to shake head and most important thing is to face the camera and smile. Lol. Otherwise, the $12 I paid for the stage photographs are gone case.

Standing at the little red cross pasted on the floor, my name is announced by Prof Khoo. I made my steps towards the Dean, shake hand, holding onto the scroll and smiled at the camera. Phew, the moment the scroll is collected and smiling at the camera, it seems like a big heavy stone has been put down. Looking at my certification, I feel proud of myself.

After the ceremony, it is another session of photo taking with my family and friends. Andy has not graduated yet but like me, he is taking photos with lots of friends too. Now I am looking forward to the day he wear graduation gown, looking at him collecting the scroll.

Credits to Andy:

  • Giving me a surprise with a bouquet of flowers
  • Helping me to look after my princess and was mistaken by alot of people as his daughter
  • Being my personal photographer on that day
  • Celebration dinner

2 more days to commencement

Posted by icyelite on July 13, 2008

2 more days to my commencement. Mixed feelings. Sometimes feels abit excited about going to take picture with my family and friends, sometimes feel abit ___ (cant think of a good word to describe my feelings now). I hope that day everybody will enjoy.

On the day I collected my graduation gown, I had spent alot just in school. I bought the graduation gown, stage photo, plaque and a lion which is my favorite. In addition to these, I had paid deposit for taking family photo with my family. Lucky, Andy went with me, else I couldn’t decide for alot of things.

The first stop is to make payment for the graduation gown that I had previously ordered online. My set of graduation gown costs $52.40. This is cheap as compared to other schools, especially overseas universities.

My school official stage photographer is Werkz. They are asking people to buy the stage photos at different designs, with CD and without CD. The designs of the stage photos are with the school logo and without the school logo. So I bought the photos without school logo and with a CD. Lol, so that I can edit the photo myself, damage is $12.

I bought the plaque from House of Poroseal and it costs me $108. In addition to the plaque, they are selling a small photo album for 4R size photo @ $40 promotion rate. The design looks quite nice so I just grabbed it for displaying at my home.

Group of Lions Plush Toys

The school is selling Lion plush toys specially to attract the girls. Oh well, indeed, it caught my attention. The lion is wearing the same graduation gown and hood as me. Haha. I’m loving it. When I’m going to take my single portrait, I will bring it along. The damage for this lion is $39.90.

Are you able to calculate how much I had spent just to get myself prepared for the big day?  All I can see is a BIG hole in my pocket. 😀
