| Big Roll of sushi |
Mixture of sushi |
Sushi, a favorite food of Japaneses? I just learn to make sushi last year, and it was my first time eating sushi too. Usually, those sushi wrapped with cucumber only, I do not eat. That is because I’m afraid they will add on some special ingredients that I do not know and they have a strong smell which I don’t really like. Haha. Now that I know how to make sushi already, I guess the strong smell is vinegar.
There are alot of different types of ingredients you can add inside the sushi, its up to your choice. However, in the recipe later, I will show a simple list of ingredients that you can make your sushi more colorful and more appetizing.
Basic Tools that you will need for Sushi Making:
- Wooden sushi mat/ sushi press mould
- Sharp Knife to cut sushi

Ingredients A:
Zhen Zhu Mi, 珍珠米/ Japanese Rice
Sushi Vinegar/ Rice Vinegar
Ingredient B:
Vegetarian Hot Dog
Vegetarian Bak Kua
Sukini/Japanese Cucumber
Vegetarian Pork Floss
Salad Cream/ Mayonnaise
Ingredient C:
Seaweed
Preparations for Sushi Making:
- Wash the rice and cook it like cooking normal rice.
- After rice is cooked, add sushi vinegar into the rice. The amount of vinegar to mix in is according to the amount of rice you had cooked.
- After mixing, let it cool down first while you prepare ingredient B.
- Deep fry the hot dog and cut it into stripes.
- Cut the Bak Kua into small stripes.
- Take salt and massage over the sukini, and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Wash away the salt and cut the sukini into 6 stripes.
- Once ingredients A and B are ready, you are ready to roll the sushi.
- Put a piece of seaweed on the wooden sushi roll.
- Spread the rice evenly onto the seaweed, filling 3/4 of the seaweed size.
- Take a few pearls of rice and smash it at the edge of the seaweed to aid in sticking later.
- After spreading the rice, put salad cream, vegetarian pork floss, sukini, vegetarian bak kua and hot dog.
- Roll the sushi with strength, so that it appears to be tight and for ease of cutting the sushi into smaller pieces.
Finishing: After rolling the sushi, cut the sushi into smaller pieces. Put the sushi onto plates. Prepare wasabi and soy sauce in a saucer. You are ready to serve.
Advice:
- You can use vegetarian ham instead of vegetarian hot dog.
- You can make scrambled eggs to add on into the sushi too.
- Try to choose different colors of ingredients, so that it makes your food looks more appetizing.
- When mixing/cooling the rice, you can pour out the rice into a big mixing bowl.
- Try to use a non-stick spoon when digging out the rice from the mixing bowl, else make a bowl of salt water if you are using your hands.
